MAP is an agency that works with young, talented Musicians, Artists and Producers who live in the East Kent area and are between the ages of 18 – 25. The Aim of MAP is to prepare each member individually for presentation to the music industry as a recording artist, session musician or producer.
East Kent is a deprived area that has held little significance to the music industry over the last few years, yet, is a region that boasts fantastic young talent. Ivan Hussey, who has had 25 years experience working in the music industry, started MAP to help rectify this issue.
As a cellist, Ivan has played on well over 200 albums including hits by Soul II Soul, Mick Jagger, Annie Lennox, Gabrielle, Take That, Jay-Z, Keane and many more. He has toured with Duran Duran, Gabrielle, The Lighthouse Family and Natacha Atlas, runs his own project Celloman and releases albums on his own label Jambila Music.
MAP will showcase three exciting young original artists at the first of the MAP Showcases.
19 year-old Marilyn sky has a voice that has been compared to Amy Winehouse. but, the comparison ends there. Marilyn and her 7-piece band perform a set of original upbeat tracks that fuse Pop, Reggae and Soul together with Latin flavour.
The cheeky charm of this 22-year old singer and multi-instrumentalist is evident in his approach to performance, stage presence and music. Leading on vocals and keyboards with a 6-piece band, Koogan’s original John Legend-esqe set mixes Pop, Soul and Rock with a depth of lyrical content.
The Courtney Jones Trio
It is unusual to see such young people performing in a style reminiscent of Jazz from a bygone era. Guitarist, Courtney Jones, takes his influences from such greats as Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel. Courtney’s sophisticated finger-style guitar is accompanied by bass guitar and drums.
Three Quarter Souls Led by singer & guitarist Chris Livings, this 5-piece Rock / Blues band bring a contemporary “70s” sound to powerful song. Chris has a big Rock voice that he is not afraid to use.
